
Dedicated to raising the level of cultural possibilities for the Erie community, the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center of Mercyhurst College presents an unmatched variety of performances each year. Opened in 1996, this stunning $3.7 million complex brings in artists from across the country and around the world, offering the best in jazz, cutting edge dance, award winning classical, contemporary and world music.
When the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center opened it was comprised of two full time and two part time staff members. In its infancy, the center brought in nearly 4,000 people a year and offered between six and seven programs, which consisted of the finest in Classical music featuring artists such as Kathleen Battle and the Juilliard String Quartet.
Fourteen years later, the center has a staff of six full time employees and offers over a 100 events each year. The center is also home to the Guelcher Film Series, The Metropolitan Opera: HD Live series and the Live from NY's 92nd Street Y broadcast lecture series.
Last year, the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center saw more than 27, 000 people from tri state-region and can be seen arguably as Erie’s version of the Kennedy Center. The Center has helped shape, please, and educate the community over the years.
